Review by spreaditround

spreaditround SET 1:

Carini: Standard major mode stuff. Fun opener.

Rift: Keeps the energy going.

Halley's Comet: Broadway Trey. No jam. Nifty segue into… ->

Ghost: Standard canned bliss jam that has been played so many times. They all sound the same to me.

Albuquerque: Wow! What a kick down! I just finished listening/reviewing fall 98 so this was very cool to see them bring it back. >

Saw It Again: Standard, just like all the other times they have played it except Albany 97. Why can’t they let it rip on this one? So strange.

Foam: Well played, great job Phish!

Blaze On: Standard. >

Meat: The mix on LP on this is just embarrassing. Not sure how professionals can put this out there? Gary? You suck dude. Just listen to Fishman, it hurts my ears. Funky effects breakdown is interesting, and the crowd seems to love it.

Drift While You're Sleeping: Terrible set closer.

SET 2:

Sand: Great start to the jam. Lots of swirling effects and reverse reverb. Herky jerky and psychedelic. Things mellow out in the late 9’s with Page heavy on the synth and Trey playing with pedals. The last three minutes are pedal to the medal full band jamming. Love this jam, would recommend!

Waves: I have always wondered why this never turned into a jam vehicle outside just a few versions. This one is standard as usual. >

Tweezer: Unfortunately, this is another blissed out Tweezer. Sigh. >

Crosseyed and Painless: Short, Type I face melter. ->

Light: Nice, chill jam. >

Mountains in the Mist: Lovely.

Golgi Apparatus:

Harry Hood: Shortly after the composed section, this blends perfectly into… -> Talk -> Harry Hood: Pretty cool idea here, obviously rehearsed – not that that should take anything away from this. Nice held/sustained note from Trey in the Hood jam and then into the climax.

ENCORE:

Izabella: Great encore choice!

Summary: Set one is solid. Set two starts off with a great Sand. Set two looks amazing on paper. But, it is a paper tiger. Thems the breaks. Bet it was fun in person. 3.75/5

Replay Value: Sand
