10/27/94 UHALL, UVA, Charlottesville, VA (Rvwd 2/95) I had a great time at this show, primarily because of the
Slave->Icculus encore and, of course, the most drawn-out Tweezer Reprise EVER (well, except for the 5/7/94 Bomb Factory
ending, I guess, to be fair). For those of you who haven't heard this Tweezer Reprise, the ending was stretched out, primarily
because Fish didn't want to stop pounding away. Page, Trey, and Mike hung on with him, though, so this TweezeRep kicked
onward for about 2 minutes beyond the point that it ALWAYS stops (TweezeRep varies in length/originality about as much as
Bouncin or Rift). I wish the Tweezer at this show had been as excellent and unusual. First off this "version" was very short for
1994 at 12 and one-half minutes. Trey had some great "ooow"s in the opening lyrics segment, which was nice of him and
enjoyable. He also was speaking something rythymically to the music at one point in this opening segment, too, making this
opening beautifully unusual. I remember being really excited at this point (LORD HELP ME), which might explain why this
version really brought me down. I can't make out what Trey says, though.. I probably could if I tried harder.. Anyone know?
The jam segment definitely wails for the first few minutes, plodding along with a great boldness that Tweezer often displays at
this point. At around the 7 minute mark, Trey gets into a really great key and grooves with it. Sounds really cool.. he goes with
this for a minute, though, only, instead of expanding on it and turning it into an amazing jam. At 9 mins the jam returns to a
typical tweezeresque mode, but just isn't very interesting, imnsho of course. Dying out of the jam segment starts at around 10
and one-half minutes, making this an incredibly SHORT version of Tweezer for 1994. I think it might have been deliberately cut
short, frankly. Just no real energy in the jam.. Boooo. I remember being disappointed at the show, but I also remember thinking
that maybe it would be better on tape.. oh well. 4.0 rating. (C-)
