I was privileged to be backstage when Phish showed up to check out the scene. I can't say for sure why the guys decided to stop by but I do know that it didn't come from Jeff. Trey and I were talking when he realized that Jeff was out on the drums. He was as excited to see Jeff as we were to see him! Leftover said that the fellas often bump into each other. Pretty amazing, huh? Bless those men for their love of music! Peace - Amy
Trey Anastasio with Leftover Salmon 09/20/99 Rialto Theatre - Tuscon, Arizona Las Vegas > Shape I'm In*, My Linda Lou, ?? * - with Trey on backing vocals JamBands.Com offered the following report: Leftover Phish: Trey Joins 'Salmon on Stage Last night, before a sold out crowd at the Rialto Theatre in Tucson, AZ, Phish's Trey Anastasio sat in with Leftover Salmon. Anastasio jammed with the band for over 30 minutes and sang back up on "The Shape I'm In". At one point, Trey circled his index finger around his head (jokingly signifying that Leftover Salmon's lead man Vince Herman was crazy). Thinking Trey was doing the "Meatstick Dance", members of the audience started performing the dance. Anastasio, laughing, then went into a short rendition of the jig. At one point, Trey and Leftover Salmon banjo player, Mark Vann traded licks. The other three members of Phish, Page McConnell, Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman were also in attendance, but did not perform. The collaboration most likely occurred through Leftover's drummer, Jeff Sipe, who is long time friends with Phish from his days with Aquarium Rescue Unit. Phish were in town for their show tonight at Pima County Fairgrounds in Tuscon, AZ. Additionally, Austin reported the following to Phans.Com: Trey came on stage and picked up a gold Les Paul. Mike was also present as I saw him skip out via the side door but did not play. Lots of tour crew in the Thanks to Brian Reen and Jesse Jarnow for the info!
