AHHHHHH!!!!

4/24/92 Roseland Theatre, Portland, OR

Well, just this minute walked in the door from my first show. The above
is probably wrong in a couple of spots, but I did my best based on what
I've heard on tapes. Please correct what is wrong....:-)

Wow! Tapes did *not* prepare me for such an occasion. From the first
tune to the last, I was speechless. Some highlights for me were
Gamehenge (my first ever, haven't even heard it on tape :-), Fluffhead,
Sparkle, Golgi, Bowie, Horn, .... well, damn well the entire show...
'nuf said...:-)

:-) :-)

I think I'm still speechless.... will try to write a real review and post
it once I've had some sleep... :-)

See you tomorrow in Olympia, WA!!!!!

(4/24/92 Roseland Theatre, Portland, OR):

Great show!!! About 1000 in attendance, with at least 4 taper setups. :-)
The turnout at the pre-show net.gathering was pretty light, but
thanks to my Tee, I met quite a few netters, and friends of netters,
inside. I staked out a spot in the front row of the balcony, between the
tapers, and the "Mother Tones" (a local band). Everyone around me knew
someone on the net, and wanted messages sent. (For privacy, I'll send
them individually.)
The opening band was "Jim" from Seattle. They were ok - a little
nervous. They kept saying, "We're not Phish...We're Jim. We wish we
were...but we're not. Sign our mailing list....Please." Sortof
theatrical, humorous lyrics with strange harmonies (reminds me of "X").
I saw Page buying some of their shirts.
Everyone guessed the first song, and cheered for the dog named Jim.
At the end of Col. Forbin's they did a mini-medley of Wizard of Oz tunes
while Trey did a little Gamehendge narration. That shifted into a
fire-and-brimstone sermon about Icculus and the HPB ("READ THE BOOK, GOD
DAMN IT !!!!"). Then into Mockingbird. The sermon pumped everyone up,
the rest of the first set was VERY high energy. Fluffhead and an
insanely fast Sparkle were the peak.
The second set started with plucking around with an occasional crowd
participation jingle. There were no instructions, but more than half
seemed to know what to do. The highlight of the second set was Mike's
Groove. They brought out the strobes and trampolines, and did that wierd
standing next to each other stuff. Weekapaug was really different, with
vocal jamming (or something) throughout, and it eventually segueyed into
Mango. Fish and Trey switched places while Fish dragged out the vacuum.
He wandered around because he couldn't get full power. He sang anyway,
then got his trombone. Mike sat on the vacuum (to give it more power?)
while Fish played it. (Always funny!) The Llama closer was fabulous and
fast too.
The encores were great, especially BBFCFM !! It seemed the only way
to end such a high-energy show - more energy :-). Strobes, jumping, more
wierd standing, running in circles, STOP.....more craziness,
STOP......more...!!!

            More.... More Peace,
              Shawn :-)

I CANNOT believe my SO is humming BBFCFM. :-)

==============================================================================
The best show since Stanford!! I guess they did Iculus in Santa Barbara
but lats night it was rather intense. "Read the damn book, read it, read
the damn book, etc..." Trey would yell at the top of his lungs-the way it
used to be! The hit of the night for me!! Fluffhead was too hot!! They
jammed stash for the longest I've ever heard. I think the people that
never heard it before but on the album thought it was some other tune!! I
love it when I get lost in the middle of a jam!! Page played much better
last night than in Seattle and it showed on the coil. Twas nice to here
Yamar, it's been since Amy's I last heard it live(Amy was there last
night too)!! They did foam again!! I wish everyone in the world could
have heard MIke's groove last night. It went to show how any thing can
happen any where any time. They did Mike's song too well and the strobes
were wicked intense. But after things cooled down in IAH they ripped into
Weekapaug groove like never before. Mike's hands must of been bleeding
after th e solo and halfway thru the week' jam they started in with a
vocal jam-much different even from YEM voc.jam-and ended up a old tune
"On Broadway" but they didn't sing just jammed. That was too sweet and so
they decided to slide right into mango song with out missing a stroke!!
On Honey love ya, or whatever it's called, Mike sat on Fishes vacuum and
Fish went to get his trombone, jammed on that for a while and then picked
up his vac and sucked away!! Llama is a good closer for me and contact is
a nice encore opener due it's recovering rhythm!!! Trey & Mike took stage
dives from Page's side to Fishes side during strobes!! Over all a homey
show. To me it was like the way it used to be. In fact they did no
new-new tunes!!
