This is a very amusing show that circulates well. You should check it
out if you haven't yet. The excitement from Halloween carried over
(as it has almost every year since.. you usually can't lose with a
November 2nd show!). There's Rhombus narration in the first set that
includes Trey referring to "Green Grass and High Tides.. Forever." YEM
is strong for 1989, with a crazy vocal jam that includes many amusing
vocal themes (e.g., "Lock it!"). And the vocal jam segues into the
second version ever of KUNG -- and it's hysterical.
Mike's Song isn't anything special. A typical version for the period.
Dark, raw, thundering power chords.. No soloing that's melodic or even
terribly inspired (which was the point, it seemed, in most Mike's
Songs.. they were just trying to scare everyone with a heavy, thick,
ominous wall of sound). In fact, it includes a rather unusual flub in
that Trey plays the "tramps segment closing chords" around 4:30, or
starts playing them (plays the first chord) and no one follows for
like another measure or so. I have no idea whether they were on
trampolines in this version...
Mike's Song closing chords around 5:30 and Hydrogen at 5:50. Textbook
Hydrogen. Weekapaug at 8:10. Mike's opening is wicked.. lots of
snappy playing from him for the opening thirty seconds or so, before
Trey and Page come in on the vocals and 'paug opening chords.
Weekapaug is strong, but only average for the period. Closing 'paug
chords at 12:25. Total time: 13:25.
