Steven Drebber had better have appeared at the Burlington Boat House on 8/12/89; it was his wedding reception! Steve, the drummer for the 1980’s Burlington-based band The Joneses, invited Phish to play at the reception. The bands had already shared a history of co-bills and guest appearances. In addition to singing lead on “Icculus,” Steve played the drums on “Run Like an Antelope” while Fishman played the trumpet and the trombone. The happy couple also jumped on the tramps during “Suzy Greenberg.” Steve recalls about four other guest appearances independent of The Joneses, including taking another stab at singing “Icculus” on 12/6/86, playing drums on the first few songs of 10/31/87 while Fishman was getting shaved and painted, and filling in at the 4/4/91 soundcheck for an absent Fishman. He currently plays in a latter-day version of The Joneses called Doctor Jones.
