Pete Wernick, better known as Dr. Banjo, boasts a resume which includes roles in the famous bluegrass bands Hot Rize (with Tim O’Brien) and Country Cooking, as well as a stint as president of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) and a prosperous solo career. A scholar with multiple degrees in sociology, he also has written instructional books for the banjo and has led camps and traveling clinics. Currently, Wernick tours as a duo with his wife Joan, as well as with his band, The Live Five.
Out near his current Colorado home, Wernick joined Phish for “Scent of a Mule” and “Poor Heart” on 11/16/97. Showing Wernick’s bluegrass roots, the former included a “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” tease.
