In addition to his appearances with the rest of the DMB, frontman/guitarist Dave Matthews joined Phish on 6/17/95 for their only known rendition of “Three Little Birds.” Matthews also appeared at a Trey solo show on 2/28/01 for that number and several others. Also in 2001, Matthews’ version of “Waste” was released on the Phish tribute album Sharin’ in the Groove: Celebrating the Music of Phish. Trey returned the favor in late 2003 and early 2004, appearing on Matthews’ solo album Some Devil and the subsequent tour to promote it. Some of those shows featured “Waste” as well as “Bathtub Gin.”
